Recycle Right is an initiative by the Auckland Council to facilitate a public education programme to help communities recycle correctly.
Requirements
Create an easy to use, fun and educational based game for the public so they can easily understand what items are recyclable and what items are not.
Delivery
We designed, built and launched Recycling Right – The Game. We created UX prototypes and UI designs modelled on the interactions of the well known app Tinder which is renowned for its ease of use.

- Facilitated workshop inputs to align education goals, game mechanics and public-facing content priorities.
- Shaped content strategy by turning recycling rules into a simple game mechanic.

UX/UI
- Researched and designed learning journeys around recyclable and non-recyclable choices.
- Created UX prototypes around a familiar swipe interaction model for ease of use.
- Used user testing to validate the swipe mechanic, comprehension and educational feedback.
- Iterated UI flows around clear feedback, accessibility and low-friction interaction.
Creative
- Led creative ideation that translated council education content into a playful digital experience.
- Used game mechanics and simple storytelling to make the learning moment more memorable.
- Balanced public information with an interaction style people already understood.
Build & Delivery
- Led delivery from prototype through to public-facing Recycling Right web app.
